Swallow Basket
So called as they remind me a little of swallows nests!
This beauty was built around a rather special piece of spalted beech I found on the woodland floor of Dartington woods and brought home to dry. The wood has so many colours it was just asking to be celebrated.
The basket that this beech branch inspired is woven with Dickie meadows willows and stripped white willow. This Basket has the extra feature of some lovely rush and sedge cordage which has been woven into the basket for detail and texture. The rush and sedge was gathered in Somerset on a glorious day this last summer. The willow is harvested just along the road also.
I have given the handle a light coating of wax to enhance its colours.
This basket would look beautiful as a statement piece in the home or can be beautiful and useful if given a job holding fruit or nuts I'd say.
